We Support Columbus Art
“Why does a commercial construction company support Columbus Art? Don’t you just build buildings?”
We love art. The creative process brings out thoughts and emotions that no other process will reveal. It takes ideas, education, fear, enthusiasm, perspective, and passion. Art can challenge, or relax. It captures a view that reveals the character and vision of the artist.
As a builder, we love to create. We know how to appreciate the aesthetic beauty in things. At Compton Construction we believe in our community and supporting others that create. We support Columbus art and local artists because we understand what it takes to start with an idea and turn it into a reality.
We are proud to be a partner in spaces like the Columbus Idea Foundry or Glass Axis, and enjoy participating in their classes. There is a wealth of knowledge and passion in the creators that is addictive to be around. It’s creative spaces like these where artists can live their passion and develop their skills.
For the last 2 years, we have been thankful to be nominated for the Greater Columbus Arts Council Small Business Award, and honored to be the 2014 Small Business winner for our involvement in the arts community. After winning, we were presented with an amazing glass block that was made by emerging, Columbus native artist, Jacci Delaney.
Jacci works at Glass Axis as one of their contract instructors. She is talented in all forms of art glass so is able to teach any of the classes they offer. Her specialty is kiln-casting and she is working on developing an affordable set of classes to offer to the public. Her work is incredible. Recently, she was selected to be a lecturing artist at the Glass Art Societies Annual
Conference, an international non profit organization, in San Jose, California. Her work incorporates the use of bubble wrap as a symbol of fragility. Our award is a perfectly square block of glass that reveals the shapes and curves of bubble wrap in the center. The perfect outer edges surround an inside that appears fragile with bubbles that could be popped!
We are honored to have a piece of Jacci Delaney art on display in our office, and are excited to see the recognition of Columbus art on the international stage.
