Estimator

The responsibilities of Compton Construction’s Estimator include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Lead all preconstruction services including budgeting, and bidding.
  • Review the scope of construction work to be completed to determine the type of work, basic materials, project duration and define the responsibility for construction.
  • Contribute in a meaningful way to value engineering and alternatives in proposals.
  • Reconcile estimates with consultants and design team members.
  • Prepare and Present Conceptual Estimating.
  • Assist in all business development meetings.
  • Coordinate and evaluate feedback from departments within the company (Operations, Accounting etc.), the project Owner and the project Architect during the estimating and construction process.
  • Prepare invoices, contracts, change orders and other documents regarding the project scope, as needed.
  • Provide superior customer service and ensure excellent customer experience.
  • Understand and be able to communicate scope of contract to your supervisors, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Express critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify problems and solutions before they become real issues.
  • Collaborate directly with the Director of Construction, and CEO on special projects, opportunities, and bids.
  • Physical requirements include sight, hearing, standing, kneeling or crouching in awkward or uncomfortable positions, possibly outdoors or in unheated/un-cooled areas indoors, for long periods of time.
  • Provide answers to questions created by subcontractors in a quick and timely manner.
  • Provide support to other staff members with details, reports, and information.

  • Maintain a positive “can-do” attitude.
  • Work primarily in downtown Columbus office, with frequent visits to job sites

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 3-5 years commercial construction experience
  • Track record of sales or estimating success with documented results
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation
  • Demonstrated success operating and leading a team of at least 3 direct reports
  • Evidence of career growth
  • MS Office skills including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Outside interests – hobbies, community involvement

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • 5-10+ Years of construction management experience
  • OSHA 10 hour Construction Safety and Health class completion
  • Auto CAD, SketchUp, Adobe & Microsoft Project Experience
  • Sage CRE 300 Experience
  • 2 year associate degree

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • OSHA 30 hour Construction Safety and Health class completion
  • 4 year bachelor’s degree

Project Manager

The responsibilities of Compton Construction’s Project Manager include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist in all preconstruction services including sales, design, budgeting, and bidding
  • Create and manage the project schedule by scheduling daily/weekly tasks for the subcontractors and Compton Construction site team.
  • Track and maintain all financial transaction of the project with the accounting department’s assistance (expenses and revenue).
  • Prepare invoices, contracts, change orders and other documents regarding the project scope.
  • Capable of managing the construction site team, by empowering the Superintendent and Field Assistant.
  • Mentor and develop the skills of the construction team.
  • Provide superior customer service and ensure excellent customer experience.
  • Understand and be able to communicate scope of contract to your supervisors, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Ensuring safety and all other Compton Construction job-site policies are upheld
  • Express critical thinking and problem solving skills to identify problems and solutions before they become real issues.
  • Create and approve all change orders outside the scope of the original contract
  • Maintain: daily logs, current contract documents, as-built drawing set, first aid kit, fire extinguishers, jobsite table/chair, and any other Compton Construction equipment
  • Physical requirements include sight, hearing, standing, kneeling or crouching in awkward or uncomfortable positions, possibly outdoors or in unheated/un-cooled areas indoors, for long periods of time.
  • Work primarily in downtown Columbus office, with frequent visits to job sites

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Successful experience as a Superintendent (5+ years) or Construction Project Manager (3+ Years)
  • Track record of project success with documented results
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation
  • Demonstrated success operating and leading a team of at least 3 reports
  • Evidence of career growth
  • MS Office skills including Word, Excel, and Outlook

Preferred Skills/Knowledge:

  • 5-10+ Years of construction management experience
  • OSHA 10 hour Construction Safety and Health class completion
  • Microsoft Project Experience
  • Sage CRE 300 Experience
  • 2 year associate degree
