Schmidt’s Restaurant
Columbus’s iconic German restaurant Schmidt’s needed updates to some of the less glamorous features of their historic business – the restrooms and walk-in cooler. The outcome is a larger modern refrigerator with a new entry cut into the kitchen, two stunning bathrooms with modern amenities, and an accessible ramp and new secondary entry way. Masons built a hallway that artfully mixes salvaged brick with new to connect the updated bathrooms with the existing space. Maintaining the feel of the German Village space and working around their peak business hours required thoughtful design, careful planning, and great communication. For a business that only closes four days a year, the project was a big success allowing them to update their facilities without hindering their operations.
