Construction Q&A with Hot Chicken Takeover

Compton Construction is excited to partner with Hot Chicken Takeover, and make improvements at the North Market location. We recently sat down with HCT head fryer Joe DeLoss, over some chicken, and discussed the project.

Compton Construction: What is the best thing about being in the North Market since you relocated from Olde Towne East less than a year ago?

Hot Chicken Takeover:

While we loved the tight-knit community feel in Olde Towne East, the larger space in the North Market has allowed us to serve more people during all seasons, while still maintaining our unique atmosphere. Plus, we love being part of a top historic landmark in Columbus, working alongside so many other great vendors.

Compton Construction: What made you decide to improve the space already?

Hot Chicken Takeover:

We have consistently made improvements to the way we create our food so that we can serve the highest quality product possible, and the next logical step involved making our dining room and kitchen more efficient. We’re very excited about the updates and how our customers will benefit.

Compton Construction: What changes can we expect once the construction has been completed?

Hot Chicken Takeover:

The overhaul of the dining room layout will be immediately noticeable to our customers. It will be easier to order food, grab tea, guzzle house ranch, and find a seat at a communal tables. We’re also revamping our carryout window so our call-ahead customers won’t have to wait in the middle of a high-traffic area near the registers.

Compton Construction: The design includes reclaimed pallet wood and steel. Why is this an important part of your brand identity?

Hot Chicken Takeover:

HCT has always been a DIY restaurant. We started in our living room before graduating to OTE and then the North Market. That’s quite a few site in under two years. What’s been consistent is that we found and made spaces work and that we kept our business central to people and food. We usually don’t think of it as ‘reclaimed’ but rather ‘found.’

Compton Construction: We see you at Mapfre Stadium and at the Shoe. What’s next for Hot Chicken Takeover?

Hot Chicken Takeover:

More restaurants and (hopefully) more customers to fill our tables.

HCT will maintain their normal operating hours through the renovation, so you can continue to fill your hot chicken cravings. Visit their website, or follow them on Facebook for more spicy chicken goodness.
